I have been researching my family history for a little over 35 years and made good progress tracking the family line through both of my Mother’s parents. I have gone back a long way on both my maternal grandfather’s and grandmother’s families. On my Father’s side I have traced both of his mother’s parent's families back many years.. My really big stumbling block for many years has been my paternal grandfather's family. This has been so frustrating. Very recently I decided to look for a professional genealogist and with much luck came across Sheila Herd. I outlined what little I knew, provided some documents and left her to it. Within 24 hours Sheila came back with an amazing revelation that my grandfather had been living two lives under two different names. He had an outstanding war record from WW1 and yet had on a number of occasions spent some time in prison. He had been married twice using a different name on each occasion, complicating the research. All this information was revealed within 1 week. I wish I had looked for Sheila 35 years ago. She has produced a ‘golden key’ to unlock my past. She was a great find and I can highly recommend her service.

I have been amazed at the astonishing information and revelations about both my paternal and maternal family which Sheila Herd discovered during her search for my ancestors.Sheila put flesh on known family stories handed down for generations and on families and their stories which had been forgotten, lost or were unknown. One was a Hereford husband who had disappeared, eventually declared dead, but was alive and living in poverty in London.Sheila's research was meticulous, backed by newspaper reports, baptism, marriage and funeral records and the census going back to the first in 1841. Her research has been filed in a mighty folder of family trees, broken down under the names of individual members, all cross referenced, and with photographs where they exist.Sheila's research has given me fantastic insight into my ancestors. It is to be followed by her looking for the full story of my husband's ancestors. I fully recommend her to anybody who wants to know the story of their ancestors.
